Ben y Vrackie rises imposingly above Pitlochry to 2757 feet and so closely misses out on Munro status (mountains in Scotland over 3000 feet). However it is still a challenging, if accessible climb with hikers rewarded with fantastic views of the surrounds should they conquer the steep peak. From the Moulin car park follow the path which is signposted for the walk. Continue along this path to the summit and return the same route.

Beinn a’ Ghlo

Beinn a’ Ghlo is a huge, complex hill with many ridges, summits and corries. Thus there are 3 munros to conquer: Carn Liath, Braigh Coire Chruinn-bhalgain, Carn nan Gabhar. A circular walk allows the energetic hiker to take in all three. A popular starting point is at Loch Moraig (grid reference NN905670) at the end of the minor road, three kilometres from Blair Atholl.

From Loch Moraig a track is followed to the foot of the mountain. It is a steep climb to the first Munro of Càrn Liath passing through white granite scree near the top. The route continues north dropping down to a col at 760 metres to climb Bràigh Coire Chruinn-bhalgain which gives a fine view down into Glen Tilt before turning east to take in Càrn nan Gabhar. The return to Loch Moraig can be varied, going over the "top" of Airgiod Bheinn (1061 metres), which translates as Silver Mountain, before dropping into the valley and picking up the track; this avoids the need to re-ascend the first two Munros.
