Pitlochry Festival Theatre 2012
& Explorers Garden

The Explorers Garden in Pitlochry, Perthshire is open during the summer months and it is a very popular tourist attraction. The Explorers Garden is a delightful wood that covers six acres and it attracts thousands of visitors very year. When you visit this attraction you can listen to stories and get to know plants, which are popular within Scotland. The Explorer Garden is divided into different parts of the world and each area will incorporate wildlife, architecture, unusual plants and spectacular views. Both Pitlochry festival theatre and the Explorer Garden are featured on a Pitlochry map therefore they are easy to find. The town of Pitlochry is also home to a repertory theatre and this theatre has enough seating for five hundred and forty four.

John Stewart founded the festival theatre Pitlochry in 1951. John Stewart was a former director of the college known as Skerry’s. The theatre was actually first housed within a tent that was located in Knockendarroch House grounds and this is located within the area known as Lower Oakfield.  This tent became semi permanent and it stayed at this location for thirty years until the present theatre was built and opened in 1981.

When visitors are attending matinee performances they will normally be directed to the overflow car park. The Explorer Garden is home to a number of unusual and rare plants and it is run in conjunction with the Royal Botanical Gardens in Edinburgh and they develop national collections. The Explorer Garden is also home to a number of unusual buildings and these promote the sustainable uses of timber. The Explorer Garden will develop and exhibit a range of different collections of visual artwork and sculpture.

This garden is designed to attract interest all year round however its important that the visitors are able to appreciate that the new plants will need time to develop and grow. This visitor attraction has a range of different facilities that include a café, restaurant and also a bar. These facilities are all located within the theatre building. There is also a small shop within the foyer of the theatre that sells a range of gifts.
