The Scottish town of Pitlochry is one of the main tourists areas within Perthshire. This town is well known for its hydroelectric dam and also the scenery. The Pitlochry dam is home to a salmon ladder however the salmon do not actually jump up the ladder however they swim through the pipes that are interconnected. There is an observation chamber on this dam, which allows people to watch the salmon underneath the water through a plate glass window.

The current town is pretty new by Perthshire standards and most of the town dates from the middle part of the nineteenth century. Queen Victoria visited the town during 1844 and this led to the town becoming a popular tourist attraction.

The town of Pitlochry is at the heart of Scotland and it has a warm hospitable environment, which encourages the tourists to return to the area. The town is home to some very spectacular scenery and it also has a rich clan history. There are a lot of different things that tourists and locals alike can see and do. The town is a popular tourist area all year round and there is a good range of accommodation in Pitlochry. This town has a good range of accommodation, restaurants and cafes that offer a wide selection of food.

The town is well located for touring the rest of Perthshire and the Scottish Highlands. The city of Edinburgh is located about seventy minutes to the south of the town, the city of St Andrews is located about ninety minutes to the south east of the town and the area of Loch Ness, Royal Deeside and Braemar are also only about ninety minutes from the town.

When you first visit the town it is a good idea to get a map of Pitlochry so that you can explore all of the most fascinating areas of the town. The town is very popular with climbers and hill walkers as there are a lot of mountains that surround the town. Other popular activities within the town include boating and fishing. There are two distilleries within the town and these both have visitor centres, which are very popular with tourists.
